Introducing beautiful Movado Museum Ref. 88.c6.882.2. Gold plated case. 30mm case diameter without crown. Excellent working condition. Every function of the watch works perfect.
The "Museum Watch" is characterized by its black dial devoid of any numerals, symbols, or hour and minute markers. The sole mark on the watch is a solitary gold dot positioned at twelve o'clock, resembling a sundial, the earliest timekeeping device. The original Museum Watch, designed by Nathan George Horwitt (an independent industrial designer renowned for the 1930 Beta chair), was first crafted in 1947 in 14k white gold with black enamel (Prototype No. 2 resides in the Brooklyn Museum, a gift from Nathan George Horwitt). This prototype (one of three) was produced by Vacheron G. Constantin-LeCoultre Watches, Inc. in Switzerland and later added to the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in 1960.
Movado, without authorization, began producing a replica of Horwitt's design in 1948. It was not until 1975 that Movado reached a settlement with Horwitt, offering a payment of $29,000. Following Horwitt's passing in 1990 in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, Movado initiated an extensive marketing campaign highlighting Horwitt and the Museum Watch's design. In the late 1960s, the Howard Miller Clock Company produced a wall clock based on this distinctive design.
