        Despite its relatively low price point, the Chronostop was considered a premium model due to its high-precision, high-frequency, and high-quality movement. This engine was essentially a simplified version of the one that powered the Speedmaster, and Omega used two manual-wind movements for its Chronostop models: the cal.920 (with a date) and the cal.865 (without a date). These movements had 17 jewels, a fast 21,600 Bph rate, and were exclusively used in the Chronostop.
    The cal.865 movement was first introduced in 1966 and was used in 124,000 Chronostops, while the cal.920 movement debuted in 1968 and was utilized in 61,000 watches. The Chronostop was highly regarded within the watch industry, winning the 1967 Honor Prize for "Chronographs and Sport Watches" in a competition sponsored by the Swiss Watchmaking Federation to encourage innovation. Additionally, the watch received the first prize for Industrial Aesthetics at the Utrecht Spring Fair in 1968.
      Despite featuring only one measurement function, the Chronostop was chosen as the official Omega timer at both the Pan-American Games in Winnipeg and the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico. The Mexico Olympics versions of the watch were available in olive green, red, white, and blue and used the cal.920 movement with a date function, and came with dial-matching leather straps.
