Mortima Super Calendar, Cal. Cattin C66, Men’s Manual Wind, 1965

The 1965 Mortima Super Calendar combines a broad 43 mm case with an unusually dense arrangement of scales: a black dial, inner 13–24 numerals, TACHYMETRE markings and an outer ring of world-city names. Green luminous-style hour plots, an arrow-shaped hour hand and a red-numeral date aperture give this French manual-wind watch its instrument-like appearance.

Layered scales and a red date display

Large circular and rectangular green plots mark the hours against the black dial, supported by white minute divisions. MORTIMA and 17 JEWELS appear below 12, with SUPER CALENDAR above 6. A broad arrow hour hand, long minute hand and slender central seconds hand carry pale inserts that echo the green markers. The framed calendar aperture occupies the lower-right quadrant.

The black outer ring includes New York, Chicago, Hong Kong, Tokio and Sydney. Inside it, the TACHYMETRE scale adds another layer of printing. These are design and calculation scales, rather than an independently powered world-time display or a chronograph complication. Portions of the bezel printing show loss and age-related wear.

Broad case and twin crowns

With a 43 mm diameter and 43 mm lug-to-lug measurement, the case has a broad but relatively short footprint. Rounded shoulders and a polished profile surround the multi-scale dial; surface wear is visible on the exterior. Two ridged crowns sit near 2 and 4 o’clock, providing separate external controls.

A black fabric NATO-style strap with twin gray stripes and metal keepers gives the watch a practical, casual finish. It measures 18 mm wide and is adjustable. It is not represented as an original period strap.

Cattin C66 and mechanical ownership

The 17-jewel Cattin C66, associated with Cattin & Cie, powers the time and date display. As with other manual-wind watches, hand winding is part of the ownership routine. This example has been fully serviced and is fully operational. Its watch-head components are original, with the fitted strap treated separately. No box or papers are included, and the watch comes with a 12-month warranty.
